Sanjay Patil : Nagpur : Maharashtra’s Energy Minister Dr Nitin Raut has thanked the Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) Government for getting Cabinet approval to release wheat and rice to Above Poverty Line (APL) Saffron Ration Card beneficiaries under National Food Security Act, 2013 (NFSA) for the month of April and May.
He has also requested Government to make some arrangements for those who were hit by the lockdown but were unable to get benefit under NFSA due to lack of any documents. As per the Cabinet nod the Saffron Ration Card beneficiaries would get 3 kg wheat at Rs 8 per kg and 2 kg rice at Rs 12 per kg per head through Public Distribution System (PDS). In this regard Chief Minister has sent letter to the Government of India requesting to release fund with immediate effect.
In a letter sent to the Chief MinisterUddhav Thackeray on last Thursday, Dr Raut requested to release foodgrains to those who had Saffron Ration Cards as well as to those starving people who did not have any such documents. In his letter, Dr Raut pointed out that there were thousands of people residing in slums who did not have any kind of ration cards.
They were mostly industrial workers, labourers, cycle rickshaw pullers, autorickshaw drivers, sanitary workers, scavengers, homeless persons living on footpath, orphans, brickyard workers, construction workers, boot polishers, coolies, sugarcane labourers, etc. They were starving due to lockdown as they had lost their livelihood. So they needed to be covered under NFSA 2013. Due to the State Cabinet approval approximately 3.08 crore APL Saffron card holders will now receive wheat and rice at low prices in the month of April and May which would cost Rs 250 crore to the State Exchequer.Maharashtra’s Energy Minister Dr Nitin Raut has thanked the Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) Government for getting Cabinet approval to release wheat and rice to Above Poverty Line (APL) Saffron Ration Card beneficiaries under National Food Security Act, 2013 (NFSA) for the month of April and May.
