The frontline healthworkers at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH), All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) have a reason to smile. Now, administration in Nagpur has decided to shift asymptomatic coronavirus positive patients to MLA Hostel where a Covid Care Centre is to be developed. Thanks to Divisional Commissioner Dr Sanjeev Kumar who initiated this step in the wake of new guidelines of allowing asymptomatic COVID-19 positive to get home quarantined. Dr Sanjeev Kumar, Divisional Commissioner told ‘The Nagpur Press Media ’, “Covid Care Centre is being set up at MLA Hostel.
Once it is ready the load on Government hospitals would get reduced. No mild or asymptomatic COVID-19 positive cases would be sent to government hospitals. About following the new guidelines, we have not taken any decision about the same as we have to look into the density of population, congestion, etc.” The guidelines issued by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Public Health Department of Maharashtra had issued its new rules in the first week of June. The rule said the asymptomatic coronavirus positive patient can stay at home. Government has given certain conditions following which the asymptomatic ones can opt for home stay. But the administration at all districts in Maharashtra has not implemented it after passage of around 15 days of its issuance.
Government had made classification of the coronavirus patients into asymptomatic, moderate and severe. It has made three parts of the hospital care. Mild or asymptomatic cases are to be isolated in Covid Care Centre (CCC), the moderate ones to be admitted at Covid Health Centre (CHC) and the severe ones to be kept in Covid Hospital. All persons testing positive for coronavirus were to be admitted in hospital. This has increased the load on the Government hospitals. The frontline healthworkers were handling the treatment part but there was another problem to be dealt by doctors as far as these mild patients are concerned. Since these mild ones don’t have any health problems, they put unnecessary demands and pose problems before the hospital administration. Considering that aspect, Dr Sanjeev Kumar took the decision of setting up Covid Care Centre at MLA Hostel.
Soon administration may introduce the home isolation part. While in home isolation the coronavirus positive ones should do self-observation and if they suffer from respiratory problem, experience pain in chest, become unconscious, lips and face gets bluish, then medical help should be sought immediately. The person should remain under home isolation for 17 days from the day the symptoms started. For asymptomatic for 17 days from the day the throat swab is taken. If he or she doesn’t suffer from fever in last 10 days during home isolation he or would be considered as coronavirus-free and he or she doesn’t have to get tested for coronavirus again.
