SE, Mpl Commr suspends Deputy Engineer : Mayor Sandip Joshi orders : Sanjay Patil

Sanjay Patil ; Nagpur : Yet another senior officer of civic administration got show cause notice, however at instance of Mayor Sandip Joshi who was peeved at ignorance of his authority. Joshi on Wednesday asked for explanation from Shewta Banerjee, Superintending Engineer, Water Works, for not reporting to meeting with Mayor. The raging battle between Municipal Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe and Mayor for asserting authority in Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is putting senior officers in cross fire, feels the civic body watchers. They are at loss whom to follow as each of the side is not ready to climb down.

Meanwhile, Municipal Commissioner ordered suspension of Ajay Pazare, Deputy Engineer, Tax Department, Aasi Nagar Zone, for dereliction of duty. Pazare was served notice on Wednesday and directed not to work in any Government or private company. Lax employees of Tax Department are on target and previously two of them were dismissed from service. On Wednesday, Mayor had called civic officials to take a review of matter raised by Dharampal Meshram, Chairperson, Legal Committee, and current pointsman of ruling party for taking on the might of civic administration.

At the said meeting Banerjee was asked to attend with relevant information. As she did not turn up for meeting, Banerjee’s phone was rang to remind her about the meeting. The Superintending Engineer, however, did not respond to the repeated calls for meeting with Mayor thereby inviting latter’s rage. Meanwhile, Mayor directed civic officials to submit information sought by Adv. Meshram within two days.
